Las Vegas Dispensary Rejected by City Council
Podcast #10 here digs deep into the City of Las Vegas government’s disapproval of a for-profit company’s proposal to open a marijuana dispensary within the city limits in 2020. The proposed location was within the City of Las Vegas Ward 2 adjacent to a master-planned community known as Summerlin where some of the most expensive single-family homes in the Las Vegas Valley are located. Residents who live in that affluent residential section of the City of Las Vegas largely took a “not-in-my-backyard” stance in their opposition to the opening of a marijuana dispensary within a small shopping center at the intersection of West Sahara Avenue and South Fort Apache Road. The proposing company made what turned out to be self-destructive choices while attempting to win approval from the public and from City of Las Vegas government officials.
