When Ron Jacobs contacted me in March 2009 about a ten year-old interview he had done with Bill Drake, I was stunned. How could I not be hit over the head with the huge significance of this 1999 interview? Drake is no longer with us. So, this 1999 interview is one rare and final chance to find out what he said for the record about matters relating to his professional life and to Boss Radio. Over the course of his professional career, Drake did not sit down for interviews with very many people. I know this because I was one with whom he did sit down for an interview in the late 1970s in Beverly Hills, California.

I did not know Ron Jacobs very well. I do know, however, that he was bright and creative and that he and Bill Drake were also a team that would be hard to duplicate in this day and age. The complemented each other so well. It was really amazing what they did. I think that having the opportunity to read an interview of Bill Drake that was done by Ron Jacobs is simply a priceless moment in time. I am happy to share this with you on my website.

Bill Drake and Ron Jacobs, Candy Canyon, 1999 Ron Jacobs was on the mainland and stopped in Los Angeles on his way back to Hawaii. He met face to face with Bill Drake.

Together they recorded an unusual free-wheeling and candid exploration of their lives in the rock and roll radio business. The recording was completed in two days on June 19 and 20, 1999 in a seedy San Fernando Valley bar called Candy Canyon, where this photograph was taken. Read more.
